Why Two-Factor Authentication?
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a way of increasing account security by requiring authentication beyond username and password when logging in. Two-factor authentication helps prevent unauthorized access even if your password is stolen or hacked.
Typically, logging in requires just your username and password. With two-factor authentication (2FA) turned on, logging in requires verification code using a second device, such as your mobile phone, or email verification. With 2FA required, the risk of a potential intruder gaining access to your account is much lower.
How Do You Activate It?
You can select from a few options to receive your authentication code:
- Mobile App: Login using a mobile app like Authy or Google Authenticator. You can Enable it by clicking the right arrow, downloading the app of your choice, and activating the App with the QR code.
- Email: This option is automatically Enabled. You will receive an Email to the email address tied to your user account for your WordPress website.
- Backup codes: This is a list of one-time codes that you can use if you lose access to your device or email. These are like emergency codes. Keep them in a safe place.
